Did my interview go well according to you?
lagartija_azul84 asked:
It is for a media executive position. The company is international and is looking for someone with both Italian, Spanish and English.
I have all these languages at mother tongue level. With regard to my media experience, I am working as a freelance journalist. Besides, have lots of international experience in NGOs.
They were quite impressed with my achievements, but pointed out that my background is quite academic and I have no marketing background. However, I told them that I worked in several different places and am good at customer interaction.
The interviewer was ultra friendly. At the end she asked me personal questions about where in Italy I lived and told me she’d give me a reply in max 2 days. Then before leaving she said: Thanks for coming.
I see these as mixed signs and I can’t really tell if my interview went well or not…

It’s hard for us ‘yahooers’ to give you an answer to this. how do you feel it went? Did you leave with a bad feeling in your gut or walking on air?
To ensure that you stand a chance, send a thank you letter to everyone who interviewed you. Do this today! You need to stay fresh in their minds. If you have their email address, by all means email them. Make sure that you type your letter in the email - do not send it as an attachment - many companies have email exchange servers that will throw the email with your attached letter into a spam folder. Just make sure you do this today.
Good luck!
It sounds like it went well. It was good that you had an answer when they challenged your lack of marketing background.
It’s hard to tell with interviews, because if they haven’t met with all the candidates yet, then you don’t know what your competition is like - and neither does the employer.
Good luck!
…Incidentally, ‘both’ means ‘two of something’ and you mention three languages. I would have avoided using the word ‘both’ in that sentence.
I don’t know how it went. I wasn’t there.
In my opinion, at best you are second runner up. I believe the marketing background is important for the position because the company expects results from you and wants to use your connections in the industry. Having good customer relations skills is no substitute for a solid marketing background. To improve your chances, write them a thank you letter briefly highligting how you will improve their company and how you will overcome the shortcomings they identified
