I am going to major in journalism. How do i be a good journalist and how do i get a good job in that field? How do i become a freelance journalist?
i want to go into print journalism, specigically magazines.

    Take a lot of journalism classes and ethics classes and writing classes. Work as a reporter on your campus’ newspaper. You most likely won’t be freelance right away when you graduate, unless you work for little local newspapers. Pay your dues at big newspapers and then they’ll be more likely to hire you as a freelancer. And eventually when you graduate, you’ll have the experience and credibility to be freelance.

    First, I would say to make sure you go to a good school. Syracuse, Missouri and Emerson College have the best undergraduate programs out there. They will teach you all you need to do to become a good journalist. Are you looking to get into print or broadcast? Let me know and I’ll offer more advice.

    I have been a working journalist for over 10 years. The most important thing if you want to be a writer is WRITE. Write about anything and everything.

    Take notes whether you need to or not, it will hone skills you will need if you want to be a working reporter.

    Seriously, the best way to learn about writing stories is by writing stories. The more you write, the better you will become. It helps if you have some talent to start, but you can learn how to write if you need to.
